At GrowPro, we believe that everyone should visit Australia at least once in their life. That’s why we’re exploring the most important Aussie cities on our blog. Today, we’ll tell you about things to do in Perth, a city that will definitely surprise you.

Often, Perth goes unnoticed by those thinking of studying or working in Australia because it’s on the West Coast, far from cities like Sydney or Melbourne.

However, this distance can be an advantage, as it offers stunning natural beauty everywhere you look. In this article, we’ll tell you the things to do in Perth on your next visit. Sit back and let the journey begin.

The 10 Must-Visit Places in Perth

Many call it the City of Sun because Perth is the city with the most hours of sunshine per day. Additionally, those who have spent some time there say the city boasts some of the best sunsets in Western Australia.

It’s also perfect for water sports like windsurfing or kitesurfing because it’s a windy area. If you want to experience the Australian lifestyle and spend some time studying, consider including Perth as one of your possible destinations.

Join us in this post as we discover 10 things to do in Perth.

1. Kings Park, the Largest City Park in the World

You won’t believe it! This park is even bigger than the famous Central Park in New York City. That’s because there are so many exciting things to do in Perth.

From this natural gem, you can climb 101 stairs to reach panoramic views of the entire city of Perth (you know, no glory without a little suffering first) while surrounded by the best flora and fauna you could dream of.

This gigantic park hosts various ceremonies and is perfect for hiking or having incredible picnics.

2. Swan River, Natural Beauty at Its Best

Visiting the Swan River is a peaceful but beautiful plan. It’s one of the most relaxing things to do in Perth to recharge your battery. You can sail on this huge river, and locals often use it for cruises to nearby islands.

One of the most remarkable things is the contrast between Perth’s skyline and the calmness of the Swan River.

3. Northbridge, Perth’s Most Famous District

Northbridge is one of the most distinctive and must-see neighbourhoods in Perth. You can enjoy this area both during the day and at night. It is the city’s most cultural district and home to its most important museums.

At night, you’ll find an amazing number of restaurants, nightclubs, bars, and pubs with a fun and musical atmosphere, perfect for having a drink after dinner. There are plenty of attractions in this part of Perth.

During the day, be sure to check out the craft markets, the State Library, and the Art Gallery of Western Australia, which houses an impressive collection of Aboriginal art.

Also in this district is the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, located within the Perth Cultural Centre. And there’s more— we recommend visiting Nostalgia Box, a place where you can take a trip down memory lane with an excellent collection of old consoles and video games.

4. Hay Street Mall, the Perfect Shopping Precinct

Hay Street Mall is one of the busiest streets in Perth and one of the major attractions. It’s filled with various shops, including cafes, restaurants, and boutiques in the unique Wolf Lane area.

If you love antiques, head to Oxford Street. It’s a great place to stroll while enjoying a good coffee and window shopping.

5. Rottnest Island, a Natural Wonder

Rottnest-Island

One of the best things to do in Perth that will leave you speechless is visiting this magical island. Cruises from Perth take just over an hour, and we assure you it’s worth it. If you can stay for more than a day, don’t hesitate.

This island is only 19 km from Perth and is home to our friends, the quokkas. It’s pure nature. What can you do? Here are some ideas: you can relax on one of its beaches, snorkel in the coral reefs, or dive to discover some of its shipwrecks.

And, of course, you have to meet the adorable quokkas, a marsupial related to kangaroos, and very friendly with humans. The sad part is that they are endangered because foxes, dogs, and cats, introduced to the islands, hunt them daily.

How can you help? The best way is not to feed them, as they are vegetarians and anything we give them can harm their intestines, causing severe damage.

6. Fremantle, Perth’s Historic Port City

This marvel is about 30 minutes from downtown Perth and is a must-visit. It’s a charming, small coastal city with a hippie vibe, where you’ll discover many colonial remnants like the Fremantle Prison, the Arts Centre, and the old Courthouse.

Locals call it “Freo” and, did you know that you can spend a night in Fremantle Prison? There’s also a local market with delicious treats you won’t be able to resist. When it comes to things to do in Perth, this is one of its essential attractions.

7. Cottesloe Beach, the Perfect Sunset Spot

In this list of things to do in Perth, we had to mention at least one of the more than 19 beaches the city has to offer. Among them, we chose Cottesloe Beach because it’s an amazing spot where you can see the most beautiful sunsets of your life.

Besides this fantastic beach, we could also mention dreamy beaches like Bailey Beach, Trigg, and North Beach. Cottesloe Beach is also perfect for kitesurfing and surfing its magnificent waves.

When you don’t know what to do in Perth, come and take a dip!

8. Bibbulmun Track, One of the World’s Longest Trails

Bibbulmun-Track

Among other things to do in Perth is walking on this trail, one of the most beautiful and longest in the world. It stretches exactly 965 km if you walk the entire route. We recommend that if you go to Perth and have the chance, grab a good backpack and enjoy the peace and nature that will leave you in awe.

One of the most famous and frequented routes is the one from Kalamunda to Albany. What will you find in this vast place? Among other things, you will walk through forests with towering trees, cross peaceful farmlands, and pass by wild beaches of stunning beauty.

This route is usually divided into five different sections where you can take necessary breaks. Are you up for it?

9. Swan Valley, Wine Country

Located about 25 minutes from downtown Perth, this is the oldest wine region in Western Australia.

The best way to enjoy these wineries, food establishments, and the wonderful scenery along the Swan River is by taking the Swan Valley Food and Wine Trail.

You can dine outdoors at a restaurant among the vineyards or bike along the historic Swan Valley Heritage Trail. If you want to explore the area further, visit the colonial village of Guildford to check out local markets, buy art and antiques, and even stay in historic inns.

10. Bell Tower, a Giant Musical Instrument

This is undoubtedly one of the funniest things to do in Perth. This building has 12 bells and its modern and unique architecture will not leave you indifferent.

It is an 82.5-meter-tall musical instrument that performs a concert every hour on the hour. Additionally, for a small fee, you can have a short melody played of your choice. This is a very original thing to do in Perth, so don’t miss it.
